Agonda beach is located in southern Goa; stretching 3 kilometres and attracting many thousands of visitors each year. In terms of accessibility, there are a number of ways to approach the beach. It is situated in close proximity to Canacona train station from where you can take a bus to Agonda, or if you intend on driving to the beach, it’s only around fifteen minutes from the ever popular Palolem beach. However, the most popular method of getting to Agonda Beach is undoubtedly via the regular bus services running from Margao and Chaudi, which begin at around 7am and run until 6pm, with a single ticket costing only 25 rupees.

Agonda beach is famous for its natural beauty, having largely avoided the commercialisation and development witnessed in a number of other beaches in Goa. The beach itself represents the calm and tranquil destination often envisioned by tourists seeking an escape to a tropical paradise. Situated in an isolated location away from the regular tourist trail; it is the perfect getaway from the more tourist dominated beaches found elsewhere in the area. Rarely over-crowded, surrounded by palm trees and with natural wildlife in abundance in the area set back from the beachfront, Agonda represents the idyllic and laid back characterisation that Goa has come to be known by.

One of the main attractions drawing visitors to the beach is the fact that Agonda possesses a unique character in terms of the rural village feel it retains. For example, the local fishing economy continues to thrive and locals are friendly and welcoming of tourists, always willing to talk to visitors whilst also offering a wealth of local tips and knowledge about the beach.

In addition, there is a diverse range of activities on offer to visitors of Agonda beach, as the water is ideal for surfing, diving and swimming. An ever popular option is to rent a local fisherman’s boat for a dolphin watching expedition or a simple tour of the area. Less adventurous visitors are also catered for by the vast array of onshore activities that Agonda provides, from the renowned local massages to the bars and markets which offer up a wide range of local dishes, as well as a variety of arts and crafts souvenirs.

In terms of accommodation, there are a number of options to choose from should visitors wish to extend their stay beyond a single day. Various small and luxurious resorts are located in close proximity to the beach, whilst simplistic and locally constructed beach huts and designated camping areas are also available and sometimes favoured by visitors to the beach. Visitors can easily find suitable accomodation in this small pocket of paradise, regardless of budget.

For visitors to Goa looking for a secluded beach, away from the main tourist areas, that’s both rich in natural beauty and possessing local charm, Agonda beach should represent a serious consideratio
